How to use MediaHound

A quick tour of what you can do here. Unlock 🔒 Admin to edit your catalog and see the editing tools.

🔎 Browsing & finding things

Search matches title, artist, genre, cast, studio/label, even track names.
Sort by title, year, recently-added, estimated value, rating — or My rating in admin.
Filters: format, genre, studio/label, streaming service, language, category, seen/unseen. Clear resets them.
🎬 Movies / 🎵 Music / 📚 Books / 🎮 Games / 🎧 Audiobooks tabs appear once your catalog has more than one type; they narrow the filters to that type.
Searching a song surfaces the album it's on — the matching track is highlighted in the album's tracklist.
🎲 Surprise me picks something from whatever's currently filtered (preferring unseen).
Per row (− / +) changes how many cards show per row; it's remembered on this device.

🖼️ On each card

Click the cover to zoom; use ‹ › to flip through multiple photos of a title.
▶ / ♫ / 📖 / 🎮 / 🎧 pills link to where to watch, listen, find, play or hear it; the resale figure links to live eBay sold listings (and 📊 PriceCharting for games).
Music cards expand to a tracklist (♫ N tracks); click a genre, person, studio, or narrator to filter the grid to it.

🔓 Admin tools (you're signed in) — every edit saves to data/ and survives the next rebuild.

✎ Editing your catalog

Click a title (or ✎ Edit) to fix name, year, format, and the type-specific fields (artist / author / narrator / developer, studio / label / publisher), or move a title between any media type. Tick re-query to re-fetch metadata online on the next rebuild.
Mark as seen, ⟳ Rotate, set a photo as the default (★), delete a photo (🗑), or delete the title.
↻ Rebuild re-bakes the catalog from your edits and reloads.

➕ Adding things

📷 Add by photo or barcode — one place to add things. Snap or drag a photo of the cover or the barcode (UPC/EAN/ISBN) — decoded on the server, so it works from any phone over Wi-Fi (on a phone, choose Take Photo). In the same dialog you can also type the digits, or 📷 Scan live with the camera where the browser supports it (Chrome/Android/desktop; hidden on iOS, where you photograph the barcode instead).
⬆ Import list — paste or upload a CSV of titles (optionally enrich online for art + details).
💿 Discogs — import an entire Discogs collection by username.

⭐ Your personal catalog private

Give any item a ★ rating (1–10), a note, and shelves/tags; filter by shelf.
📤 Loan out tracks who has what — a badge shows on-loan items, with an On loan / Available filter.
All of this is admin-only and never published — it's stripped from any public site you publish.

💾 Backup, share & libraries

⤓ Export → a 🖨 printable inventory (PDF) (grouped + valued, great for insurance), CSV, JSON, or 🎬 Letterboxd; ⬇ Backup downloads a zip of your whole library.
🌐 Publish deploys a public, read-only copy of your catalog to the web (Netlify).
📚 Library opens, creates, or switches between catalogs (e.g. movies vs. music vs. games) without restarting.
⚙ Settings sets the library name, logo, which fields show, columns, the admin password, and provider API keys.

ℹ️ Good to know

The default view is public & read-only; editing needs the 🔒 Admin password.
Online lookups (cover art, where-to-watch, barcodes) only happen when you ask — a plain rebuild is offline.

Import titles from a list

Paste or upload a CSV. Only title is required — any missing fields are left blank, or filled in for you if you tick “enrich online”. The first row must be the column header.

Libraries

Switch the app to a different catalog, or create a new one. A library is just a folder with a config.toml. The data directory is set per-library here.
